European Green Deal – what is it? The situation in the energy market

The European Green Deal, an initiative aimed at transforming the EU into a modern and sustainable economy, is becoming a key element in the decarbonization of Poland. Like other member states, the country faces the challenge of reforming its energy sector to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Thus, the European Green Deal serves as the foundation for energy transformation across Europe. In our case, where the energy sector relies on coal, the decarbonization of Poland is not only a challenge but an opportunity for the development of new technologies that can contribute to achieving the goals of the European Green Deal.

Decarbonization – what does it mean?

Decarbonization is the process of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere, primarily by reducing the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. This process is a key element of European efforts aimed at limiting global warming and achieving sustainable development, in accordance with the Paris Agreement and other international climate initiatives.

In the context of the Green Deal, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, our country faces a unique challenge in transforming its energy sector. Above all, the energy sector should utilize more sustainable energy sources than it currently does.

Decarbonization requires significant changes not only in energy production but also in the way it is consumed, especially in the residential heating sector, which is one of the main sources of CO2 emissions in Poland. Termofol heating systems can play a significant role by offering an efficient and eco-friendly solution that aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal.

European Green Deal – assumptions

The European Green Deal and the decarbonization of Poland require not only investments in new technologies but also a change in society's and businesses' approach to energy issues. Therefore, promoting modern heating systems Termofol, which are both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, can significantly contribute to achieving the goals of the Green Deal in Poland.

Decarbonization includes a range of strategies and actions, such as:

  • transitioning to renewable energy, e.g., solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal energy;
  • increasing energy efficiency in buildings through thermal modernization,
  • electrification of transport,
  • carbon capture and storage (CCS),
  • investments in eco-friendly heating, e.g., infrared heating films.

Decarbonization is essential to limit the increase in global temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius, and preferably below 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels. This is a key goal of the Paris Agreement made in 2015 by 55 countries that are members of the UN. Meeting these conditions requires global cooperation and significant changes in the way energy is produced and consumed worldwide.

Green Deal in numbers

Statistics regarding energy in Poland shed light on progress in the field of decarbonization. As mentioned, energy transformation requires Poland to make significant changes in how energy is generated and used, especially concerning the heating of single-family homes. In recent years, there has been an increase in investments in renewable energy sources, which is a positive step towards the decarbonization of Poland. According to data from GUS, in 2022 the share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption was 16.81%. This is an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Although the Green Deal evokes strong emotions in some sectors, such as agriculture, it is associated with specific plans. On the European Commission's website, we read that under the new policy, 8 billion trees will be planted in the EU member states.

As part of the efforts to implement the goals of the European Green Deal, the European Commission has announced a plan for sustainable investment over the next decade, anticipating expenditures of at least 1 trillion euros. To support the ecological transformation, 30% of the EU budget for 2021–2028, as well as funds from the unique NextGenerationEU program aimed at stimulating the economy after the crisis caused by COVID-19, will be allocated to environmental initiatives.

Moreover, EU member states are required to allocate at least 37% of the funds received from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, totaling 672.5 billion euros, to projects and reforms supporting climate action. All projects funded in this way must align with EU environmental protection goals and must not harm them. Additionally, the Commission plans to raise 30% of funds for NGUE through the issuance of green bonds, acting on behalf of the European Union.

However, to fully achieve the goals of the European Green Deal, Poland must continue to reduce its dependence on coal and other fossil fuels that currently dominate its energy mix. In this context, Termofol heating systems present themselves as an attractive alternative, due to their ability to efficiently convert electricity into heat, with minimal losses and zero emissions. By replacing traditional heating methods, such as fossil fuel boilers, infrared heating can significantly contribute to achieving these goals.

Termofol heating systems and the European Green Deal – goals we can achieve together!

Experts in the energy sector unanimously emphasize that the European Green Deal represents not only a challenge but, above all, a tremendous opportunity for innovation in the heating sector. It becomes crucial to find solutions that reduce carbon dioxide emissions while also being efficient and economical for end users. In this aspect, Termofol heating systems stand out as one of the most promising solutions.

From the perspective of the European Union, technologies using infrared for heating are crucial for environmental protection as well as for increasing energy efficiency. Termofol heating systems are an important element of Poland's decarbonization strategy. This solution is fully in line with the spirit of the European Green Deal. Their role in Poland's energy future is likely to grow as the country strives to achieve the ambitious goals of EU policy.

Decarbonization of Poland with Termofol products

Solutions such as infrared electric heating can play a key role in this transformation due to the nature of the initiative that is the Green Deal. The assumptions imposed by EU officials are intended to lead to a lasting improvement in environmental protection across the continent. By implementing our solutions, we can contribute to reducing harmful gas emissions while also increasing the comfort and quality of life for residents.

This is also a matter of energy security. Poland, as a country, has relatively small sources of gas and oil. Coal, which has been the backbone of our economy, is slowly becoming too expensive to extract to continue using it. Therefore, we must import all minerals from abroad, which can easily be blocked by external forces. Last year's example of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion is a clear example of this. Gradually moving away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy sources and nuclear energy is a matter of security. If we can produce energy ourselves, we do not have to worry about its supply from abroad.

Achieving the goals of the European Green Deal requires commitment from all of us – both from the public and private sectors. The decarbonization of Poland is a demanding task, but with available technologies such as infrared heating films, we can walk the path of sustainable development that will lead us to a future free from fossil fuels.

Therefore, we invite everyone to join the discussion on sustainable energy and to consider the benefits of Termofol heating systems. Whether you are homeowners, developers, or representatives of local governments, we encourage you to visit our store or contact our team for more information on how we can work together towards a sustainable future.

Together we can achieve the goals of the European Green Deal and build a better world for future generations.
